ELECTION 2008

Read the website at scholastic.com about the two candidates very carefully. Try to imagine you are reading as you don't know much about these two candidates and see which one you agree with on each issue. You will then have to write a paragraph in support of either Senator McCain or Senator Obama for president. Your paragraph should have three reasons why your choice will be a good president and absolutely nothing regarding the other candidate. Pick reasons based on the issues that are most important to you and post your answers as a comment to this blog.

Sectionalism

Sectionalism began to occur in the United States around the 1820s. Sectionalism is defined as loyalty to a region rather thatn the country as a whole. The two "sections" in the United States were the North and the South. Some also consider teh western frontier a seperate section as well. You are going to research differences between the North and the South and present them in the form of a slideshow presentation with information and pictures. You must have 5 slides and they should include
1. Title page with names of group members
2. 2 slides about the North
3. 2 slides about the South

Blog posts

Great Job so far to all 7th and 8th grade students that have been posting on this site. I've read many thoughtul and meaningful responses to both official assignments and bonus assignments. You must continue to remember three things when posting to this site, first your post must be related to class and to the topic (I can reject any other type of comment anyway and it will never be seen), second you must always leave your name and third, a blog is a way to publish written work so you must always use your best punctuation and spelling and refrain from using your text and instant message shortcuts or style of writing. We'll do other assignments where you may submit them in that way. Keep paying attention because bonus assignments may pop up unannounced! Best of luck in the final weeks of the school year!
